Worrying MotoGP Trend Emerging for Ducati After Silverstone

If there is one circuit on the 2026 MotoGP calendar that could have been tailor-made for the Aprilia RS-GP, it's Silverstone. The fast, flowing layout plays to every strength Aprilia currently has, while exposing Ducati's weaknesses. The result was a weekend mirroring Assen: Aprilia locked out the top three, with the best Ducati only managing fourth.

At the British Grand Prix, Raul Fernandez celebrated his new Trackhouse deal with a superb win, ahead of championship leader Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi. Gresini's Alex Marquez was the top Ducati in fourth, just over a second off the podium. Marc Marquez, still struggling physically, could only manage seventh.

This wasn't the first time this year Aprilia has had a clear edge. While Ducati dominated at Balaton Park and Brno, and Germany swung back to Ducati, the pattern is worrying: when the GP26 is off, it's really off. At Silverstone, tyre graining wreaked havoc, especially in the sprint. Marc Marquez admitted his physical condition limited his ability to compensate. "The bike was working good, the tyre was working good," he said. "I just couldn't find a way to be better."

The championship picture has shifted. Martin now leads Bezzecchi by 31 points, while Marquez has slipped to 40 behind. This is reminiscent of the post-Assen situation. Aragon, with its anti-clockwise layout, should favour Ducati, but if they cannot improve on tracks where Aprilia excels, the pain will only intensify in the second half of the season.

Aprilia's Silverstone dominance wasn't just about the track. Raul Fernandez learned from his sprint crash and used the warm-up to find the rear tyre's limit. He attacked from the start, building a four-second lead before easing off to win by 2.5s. Cal Crutchlow praised his bravery: "Raul had more balls in the first five laps than everyone else."

Marco Bezzecchi, still recovering from injury, delivered a heroic double podium. Aprilia CEO Massimo Rivola was astonished: "He struggled to walk this morning, yet he raced like that. It shows the heart and balls of our riders." Still, Rivola remains cautious, insisting the title fight is wide open.

For Ducati, this is a wake-up call. They are being punished heavily at tracks that don't suit them, more so than Aprilia at its weak venues. With ten rounds left, if no progress is made, the suffering could continue.
