Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Max Verstappen and Verstappen Racing have issued a brief statement following their disqualification from victory in the NLS2 race at the Nordschleife due to a tyre regulation breach.
Verstappen shared the car with Daniel Juncadella and Jules Gounon, completing the opening and final stints of the four-hour endurance race. The trio initially secured victory, marking what would have been Verstappen’s second consecutive win in the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie.
However, several hours after the race, post-event checks revealed that the #3 entry had exceeded the permitted tyre allocation. The team used seven sets of tyres across qualifying and the race, surpassing the regulatory limit of six sets.
As a result, the car was disqualified from the official classification, and the victory was reassigned. The incident highlights the strict enforcement of technical regulations in endurance racing, where operational compliance is critical to maintaining results.
In response, Verstappen Racing released a short statement via social media acknowledging the outcome and emphasising a forward-looking approach.
“Tough outcome, but we keep moving. A lot to take from the weekend and plenty to look forward to,” the statement read.
The response follows a separate reaction from Mercedes-AMG, which also expressed disappointment given the team’s dominant performance throughout the race prior to the disqualification.
Despite the setback, Verstappen remains scheduled to compete in the Nürburgring 24 Hours in May and has indicated the possibility of returning to the Nordschleife sooner, with participation in the upcoming NLS3 round under consideration.
The case underscores the importance of procedural accuracy in endurance racing operations, where even minor regulatory oversights—such as tyre allocation—can have decisive consequences on race outcomes. Attention now turns to the team’s internal review and preparations for the next events in its GT racing programme.
