Max Verstappen has received a boost from the newly announced 2027 Formula 1 calendar. The schedule appears to leave gaps that would allow the Red Bull driver to pursue his endurance racing ambitions: Le Mans, Nurburgring, and Spa.
This news is sure to delight Verstappen, who has long harbored a passion for endurance racing. Next season, he could potentially tackle three legendary events without compromising his primary F1 commitments. Naturally, this has become a hot topic in the paddock, given the increasingly crowded F1 calendar in recent years.
Interestingly, the 2027 F1 calendar does not clash with the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The race at Circuit de la Sarthe is scheduled for 9-13 June, immediately after the Monaco GP (4-6 June) and before the Portuguese GP (18-20 June). This slot is logistically ideal for an F1 driver wanting to compete at Le Mans, including Verstappen.
Beyond Le Mans, Verstappen is also reportedly targeting the 24 Hours Nurburgring. He suffered heartbreak in the spring edition when a mechanical failure robbed him of victory. Now, he is determined to make amends at the Nordschleife on the weekend of 30 May, which falls between the Canadian GP and the Monaco GP. Meanwhile, the 24 Hours of Spa (24-27 June) is also on his radar, as it sits between Portimao and Silverstone.
However, it is impossible for Verstappen to contest all three extra events. Doing so would mean racing eight consecutive weekends. That is clearly not a wise choice, given the physical and mental demands of F1. So he will have to choose carefully: Le Mans, Nurburgring, or Spa?
Verstappen is not the only driver tempted. Lando Norris is also known to have an interest in endurance racing. The McLaren driver has even tested the McLaren MCL-HY Hypercar that will debut in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2027. Norris's interest signals that the new generation of F1 drivers is increasingly open to cross-discipline challenges.
With this opportunity emerging, racing fans are eager to see F1 stars in endurance events. However, the final decision rests with Verstappen, Norris, and of course their respective teams. One thing is clear: the 2027 calendar seems designed to indulge drivers who want to explore beyond their F1 comfort zone.
