Max Verstappen has made it clear he is not interested in following Lando Norris's path of establishing a junior single-seater team. The 2025 Formula 1 World Champion recently announced the creation of his own team, LN4 Fusion, set to compete in FIA F3, Formula Regional European Championship, and Italian F4 from 2027.
Norris, who acquired the assets of AIX Racing, aims to "give back" to the racing community. Verstappen commended the initiative, telling media including Motorsport Week: "It's tough at the moment, costs are rising. So the more you can help them, the better it is. Some real talents, they don't have a lot of money, so to be able to create these kind of initiatives is great."
Despite his praise, Verstappen prefers to focus on his own team, Verstappen Racing, which competes in endurance and GT racing. "No, not really, not from my side," he said when asked if he would replicate Norris. "I enjoy the endurance side of things and combining endurance and Formula cars is very hectic. I enjoy more to be on the other side, working with established drivers, but also young guys that are finding that it is a crazy world."
Verstappen also explained how he and his sim racing team, Team Redline, are working to bring talent from the virtual world to real tracks. "We can prepare them through the sim company we have as well. We are anyway training a lot of Formula 2, 3 and 4 drivers," he added. "I'm very happy with what I'm doing."
With the 2027 F1 calendar not clashing with the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Verstappen is eyeing a stint at the legendary Circuit de la Sarthe for the 95th edition of the iconic endurance race. This highlights his strong interest in endurance racing, contrasting with Norris's single-seater path.
Verstappen's decision not to follow Norris's path underscores their differing philosophies. Norris aims to build a foundation for young drivers through a junior team, while Verstappen prefers developing talent via sim racing and endurance teams. Both contribute to nurturing young drivers, but in distinct ways.
Norris's LN4 Fusion initiative also draws attention due to the rising costs of racing. It is expected to aid talented drivers facing funding challenges. Meanwhile, Verstappen remains focused on his existing projects and a potential Le Mans drive. Fans await how these two world champions continue their dedication to racing beyond F1.
