US billionaire Woody Johnson has acquired a minority stake in the Aston Martin Formula 1 team, with the owner of the New York Jets also taking a seat on the board as vice chairman.
The move is a clear signal of Lawrence Stroll's ambition to boost the team's commercial growth in the United States, a key market for the series. Johnson, an heir to the Johnson & Johnson pharmaceutical empire, also has a stake in Premier League club Crystal Palace and served as US ambassador to the UK from 2017 to 2021.
Johnson's involvement goes beyond financial backing. Aston Martin stressed that he will not be involved in day-to-day management, but will focus on commercial development and growing the fanbase in the US. This aligns with F1's surging popularity in America, highlighted by successful races in Miami, Austin, and Las Vegas.

Experience and Vision
Johnson, who has long admired Aston Martin's rich history, sees a shared vision with Stroll. "We also share a commitment to growing the fanbase in the United States and introducing even more fans to the excitement of Formula 1," he said.
Stroll welcomed Johnson warmly: "His experience, passion, and investment further strengthen our position as we enter the next phase of our competitive journey. His deep appreciation for our brand, combined with his commitment to innovation and commercial opportunity, makes him an ideal partner."
With Johnson on board, Aston Martin is doubling down on its future ambitions. The Silverstone-based team continues to build infrastructure and hire top talent to compete at the highest level. This partnership is expected to be a catalyst for commercial growth, particularly in North America.
