The 2025 MotoGP season is shaping up to be a thrilling battle until the very end. Davide Tardozzi, Ducati team manager, believes the upper hand will alternate between Aprilia and Ducati depending on the circuit characteristics. After Aprilia dominated the first three rounds, Ducati struck back with a one-two finish at Jerez. This pattern continued: Le Mans went to Aprilia, Catalunya to Ducati, Mugello to Aprilia, then Balaton and Brno for Ducati, before Assen swung back to Aprilia, Sachsenring to Ducati, and Silverstone to Aprilia.
Ahead of the Silverstone main race, Tardozzi shared his thoughts with MotoGP pit lane reporter Jack Appleyard. "It will be like this: it will be Aprilia and Ducati circuits towards the end of the season," he said. This statement reflects a season where no single manufacturer has asserted dominance, making every round a battleground.
In the riders' standings, the situation is even more volatile. All four Aprilia riders have suffered at least one DNF in the past five rounds. Marc Marquez, Ducati's reigning champion, capitalized on this to slash a 102-point deficit down to just 18 points after Sachsenring. However, the Silverstone Sprint was a bitter surprise, with Marquez fading to ninth after an extreme tyre drop.

"We did not expect the huge problem [in the Sprint]. We thought that maybe we can fight for fourth, fifth, sixth place. Not ninth," Tardozzi said. He stressed that this issue must be addressed to avoid a repeat. Although a repeat was avoided in the grand prix, Marquez could only manage seventh place as the third-best Ducati rider, scoring just ten out of a possible 37 Silverstone points. This saw him slip 40 points behind Aprilia's title leader, Jorge Martin.
Tardozzi emphasized that winning the championship isn't about winning every race. "It's necessary to collect the most points possible when you are not the fastest, and attack when you are the fastest," he explained. This philosophy is evident in Ducati's consistent approach even when not dominating.
The upcoming Aragon round should be a strong opportunity for Marquez and Ducati, who have won the last four races at that track. However, Misano, a home event for both manufacturers, will be another test. Last season, wins at Misano were shared between Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi. Following that, the unpredictable flyaway rounds in Japan, Indonesia, Australia, and Malaysia will present unique challenges.
With the competition so tight and many variables at play, the second half of the season promises intense battles. Will Ducati maintain momentum, or will Aprilia seize control? Only time will tell on the track.
