Teemu Suninen's European Rally Championship title hopes took a major hit after a spin at a junction in Wales. The Finn clipped a hedge, causing damage to the front-right corner and grille of his Skoda Fabia.

The incident cost Teemu Suninen valuable time as he had to turn the car around. Worse, the radiator began leaking water, but he managed to continue after minor repairs.

Fortunately, a service break before the afternoon loop means the car should be ready for the decisive stages. Suninen remains second overall, but his lead over Miko Marczyk is now only around 19.8 seconds.

Title Pressure Mounts

While Kris Meeke continues to lead the rally comfortably, Suninen is fighting a different battle. He must balance pushing for a win with protecting his championship lead over Andrea Mabellini, who moved up after Osian Pryce retired.

“I lost the rear at the junction. It wasn’t ideal, but we’ll keep going,” said Suninen. Meeke, who rarely competes in ERC, admitted the conditions were treacherous: “When it is wet, the road is really slimy and like ice.”

Championship Scenario

Suninen still holds a 25-point advantage over Andrea Mabellini in the standings. If he scores ten more points than the Italian in Wales, he will clinch the title. But that now depends on the car being repaired in time.

Meanwhile, Ville Vatanen leads ERC3 and could secure his title with a victory here. Two stages remain in Wales, with the season finale in Portugal scheduled for late October.
