A scorching hot weekend awaits Formula 1 drivers at the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix. The new Madring circuit in Madrid is forecast to be sunny throughout, with peak temperatures reaching 33°C on race day. No rain is expected, so the main challenge will come from the hot asphalt and physical strain on the drivers.

Madring: A Historic Debut Without Barcelona

For the first time since 1991, the Spanish Grand Prix will not be held at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit. Madring, a new street track winding around the IFEMA exhibition centre in the capital, takes over as host. The narrow, precision-demanding layout will test the drivers, especially with limited practice time. They must adapt quickly to be competitive in qualifying and the race.

Weather Forecast: Hot and Sunny

According to AccuWeather, the entire Madrid weekend will be dominated by sunshine. On Friday (11/9), highs will reach 31°C under clear skies. Saturday (12/9) will be slightly hotter at 32°C, mostly sunny. Sunday (13/9) peaks at 33°C with brilliant sunshine. Winds will be light from the north-northwest at 6-7 km/h, and the chance of rain is virtually zero.

These extreme conditions could prompt the FIA to declare a heat hazard, as happened at Monza last weekend. If enforced, teams and drivers must follow additional protocols to cope with high temperatures, including possible schedule changes or extra cooling for cars and equipment.

Impact on Strategy and Performance

The long circuit and traction-demanding corners will make tyre management crucial. With track temperatures potentially far exceeding air temperature, tyre degradation is expected to spike. Teams that can manage tyre temperatures and choose the right pit strategy will have a strong chance of a top result. Additionally, the hot cockpit can drain drivers' energy, making physical fitness a decisive factor.

The combination of a new track and blistering heat makes the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix one of the most challenging races of the season. Fans can look forward to a battle of tactics and endurance under the Madrid sun.
