Oliver Solberg arrives in Paraguay with high confidence. The Toyota driver has just secured two consecutive podiums in the world rally championship, and now aims for more success on South America's famously wild and challenging terrain.
After finishing second in Estonia and Finland, Solberg is clearly in top form. But this challenge is different—Paraguay is not just another rally for him. Last year, he experienced the atmosphere of the event's WRC debut, and the impression left was profound.
“Paraguay put on an amazing event last year, and it was special to experience the atmosphere and the passion of the people,” Solberg said. The roads there also left a lasting impression—a unique mix of fast sections, narrow and wide corners, and plenty of jumps and dips, with a surface that was slippery at times.
Adapting to the Rally1 Car
However, the biggest difference this year is the weapon he brings. If last season he drove a Rally2 car, now Solberg relies on a Toyota Rally1 with much more power and downforce. That changes the way he can attack the faster stages.
“In the faster places, we felt on the limit with the Rally2 car; with the Rally1 and the extra downforce, we will be able to carry more speed, but I'll need to make that adjustment like on almost every rally this year,” he explained.
So far, Solberg's adaptation has gone smoothly. Two consecutive runner-up finishes prove his ability to adapt quickly. Now, the target is simple: keep that strong run going in Paraguay.
“After two podiums in the last two rallies, I hope we can keep this run going,” he concluded.
