Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Sergio Perez has called on Cadillac to deliver a significant upgrade package ahead of the Miami Grand Prix 2026, describing the upcoming round as the “biggest test” for the team’s early-season development trajectory.
After a challenging start to its debut campaign, Cadillac remains towards the back of the field, reflecting the limitations of a new entrant adapting to Formula 1’s technical and operational demands. However, Perez has identified clear signs of progress, particularly in the team’s growing understanding of its car and improved execution across race weekends.
He pointed to rivals such as Williams and Alpine, noting their ability to consistently unlock incremental performance gains—something Cadillac must replicate to remain competitive within the midfield battle.

“When I was out there, I could see Williams and Alpine are not too far away,” Perez said.
“They are just able to consistently keep finding pace.”
Despite that observation, Perez acknowledged that Cadillac still faces a substantial performance deficit, estimating that the team needs to find around one second per lap to realistically contend in the midfield. This places significant importance on the planned upgrade package for Miami.
“It’s clear that we need a second now,” he added.
“I really hope we are bringing a big upgrade for Miami, because that will be the biggest test for the team.”
From a technical standpoint, Perez highlighted low-speed performance as the primary weakness of the current car. While overall balance has not been a major concern, the lack of grip and efficiency in slow corners is limiting lap time potential.
“The balance is not too bad, but we are lacking in the slow-speed areas,” he explained.
With a five-week gap in the calendar following the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix, teams have gained valuable development time. For Cadillac, this period represents a critical window to accelerate its learning curve and introduce meaningful performance upgrades.
The Miami Grand Prix will therefore serve as a key benchmark for Cadillac’s progress. The effectiveness of its upgrade package will determine whether the team can begin closing the gap to the midfield and establish a more competitive position as the 2026 season moves into its next phase.
