Heading into the final WorldSBK race day of 2026, Sam Lowes sits level on 245 points with his brother Alex Lowes. The Marc VDS rider believes he holds a slight machinery and layout advantage at Jerez, drawing from his extensive grand prix racing background on the Spanish circuit.
However, beating his sibling in the championship standings is not the primary focus for the ex-Moto2 star. He openly admitted that both riders should have been much closer to Yari Montella, who successfully secured third place in the overall standings by the end of the campaign.
Lowes noted that too many crucial points were left on the table throughout the season by both brothers. This inconsistency ultimately contributed to them trailing 56 points behind the Barni Ducati rider in the final championship race.

"I think at this track I have a bit of an advantage on him. Machinery-wise and coming from grand prix, we ride a lot here," Sam Lowes explained when discussing his upper hand for Sunday. "We’ve both given away a lot of points this year. We can still be happy with the season we’ve done, but we’ve given a lot away. We should have been closer to third place, but this is the game. Hopefully the wet conditions will make it more of a fair battle."
Weather forecasts predicting rain at Jerez on Sunday could level the playing field, offering Alex Lowes a realistic chance to fight his brother, who benefits from the preferred Panigale V4 R package on dry tarmac.
Should the anticipated wet weather fail to materialize, Sam Lowes remains the clear favorite after splitting the factory Aruba.it Ducati riders during a stellar performance in Race 1.
Reflecting on his runner-up finish behind world champion Nicolo Bulega, Lowes added: "It was a solid day. I enjoyed it. I really like this track, it’s one that suits my style and I have great memories from Moto2 and in my short time in WorldSBK, I’ve been quite fast. I was really struggling a lot with the front tyre towards the end, but I managed it quite well and I am really happy."
