Carlos Sainz has officially signed a new multi-year contract with Williams. The decision comes during a difficult 2026 season for the team, as the FW48 has underperformed.
The Spanish driver cited the transparent and honest relationship with management as a key factor in his commitment. Sainz believes open communication since day one has fostered a healthy and productive working environment.
"Since day one at this team, I have experienced a straightforward, transparent, and honest relationship, not only with James [Vowles], but with the entire management and team members," said Sainz. "To improve, we need honesty and accountability."

The 2025 season was a turning point for Williams, finishing fifth in the constructors' championship, with Sainz taking two podiums in Azerbaijan and Qatar. However, 2026 has started poorly: the FW48 was late to the Barcelona shakedown, did not run, and was found to be overweight, hampering performance.
While other teams have made significant performance gains through upgrades, Williams is still dealing with weight issues. A major upgrade package is planned for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, with interim steps to reduce weight.
Despite the setbacks, Sainz believes in Williams' long-term project. "There are many changes, investments, and projects happening behind the scenes. We've hit a bump this season, but we have all the ingredients to bounce back," he asserted.
Sainz's decision to stay provides stability for Williams amid pressure. With his commitment, Williams hopes to overcome the crisis and return to the front of the grid.
