Oscar Piastri was left stunned after experiencing the extreme atmosphere of the Isle of Man TT for the first time ahead of the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix. The McLaren driver spent his break between races visiting one of motorsport’s most legendary and dangerous events alongside his manager and former Formula 1 driver Mark Webber.
Piastri and Webber attended qualifying sessions at the Snaefell Mountain Course and watched from a resident’s front garden at Bray Hill, one of the most iconic spectator locations around the 37.73-mile circuit. The area is famous for superbikes passing spectators at immense speed with virtually no separation barriers or run-off zones.
The Isle of Man TT has been staged almost every year since 1907 and remains one of the oldest events in motorsport history. The races take place in time-trial format on closed public roads lined with stone walls, lamp posts, pavements, and buildings positioned dangerously close to the racing line. More than 260 competitors have lost their lives throughout the event’s history.

In an Instagram clip shared on social media, Piastri captured superbikes flying past only inches away from the garden wall where he was standing. The Australian admitted he had not expected the level of intensity and danger to feel so close to spectators.
“We are at someone’s house, going through someone’s garden. Apparently, this is the spot to watch,” Piastri said in the video.
“I don’t know what I was expecting, but this wasn’t it.”
At the end of the clip, Piastri described the TT riders as “nuts” as they attacked Bray Hill at speeds exceeding 180 mph before launching over Ago’s Leap.
Piastri’s visit to the Isle of Man TT highlights the fascination Formula 1 drivers continue to have with other forms of motorsport offering very different kinds of extreme challenges. Compared to modern Formula 1’s highly controlled safety environment, the TT still preserves the traditional character of public-road motorcycle racing with dramatically higher levels of risk.
Webber’s connection to the event is also well established. The former Red Bull Racing driver is known to be close friends with TT legend John McGuinness, a 23-time Isle of Man TT winner. Webber’s relationship with the event helped provide Piastri access to one of the circuit’s most iconic viewing locations.
The 2026 TT schedule runs from May 25 to June 6, with the opening week dedicated to practice and qualifying before race week officially begins on May 30. The six-lap Milwaukee Senior TT will conclude the event on June 6.
Following his first TT experience, Piastri later posted a photo carousel from the event with the caption: “First TT experience. Won’t be the last.” The message strongly suggests the McLaren driver intends to return to the iconic event in the future.
