Pecco Bagnaia has revealed that a technical issue with his Ducati was responsible for the crash that destroyed his podium hopes during the 2026 French MotoGP. Despite failing to finish at Le Mans, Bagnaia insists he is carrying all the positives from the weekend into the Catalan Grand Prix.

The Le Mans weekend had actually been Bagnaia’s strongest performance of the 2026 season so far. The two-time MotoGP world champion secured pole position, finished second in the Sprint Race, and was holding another podium position before crashing with 10 laps remaining in the main grand prix.

Before the accident, Bagnaia had even set the fastest lap of the race and looked set to become Ducati’s leading finisher despite Aprilia’s dominance through Jorge Martin, Marco Bezzecchi, and Ai Ogura.

Bagnaia admitted that a small issue on the bike affected his performance during the race before eventually causing the front-end crash at Le Mans.

“I was limited by a small issue on the bike that slowed us down. We clearly know what happened and the team is already working to improve it,” Bagnaia explained.

Although the Italian rider refused to reveal technical details about the problem, he remains confident Ducati has already identified a solution ahead of this weekend’s Catalan MotoGP.

“I’m confident that for the Catalunya weekend, thanks to the work we did at Le Mans, we will have a solution,” he added.

Bagnaia believes the Le Mans performance still represented a major positive sign for Ducati after several difficult rounds trying to match Aprilia’s pace during the opening phase of the 2026 MotoGP season.

“We were fast from the beginning of the weekend and always close to the strongest riders, even taking pole position. During the race we also maintained the pace of the best riders and stayed in podium positions,” Bagnaia said.

Barcelona is historically considered one of the circuits best suited to the Desmosedici GP package. Ducati is therefore hoping to immediately bounce back at Catalunya while also using Monday’s official post-race test to accelerate development of the bike.

The situation becomes even more important for Ducati this weekend as Bagnaia will be the team’s sole factory rider following the absence of Marc Marquez, who is recovering from shoulder and foot surgery.

With Aprilia increasingly dominating grand prix victories this season, pressure is now growing on Bagnaia to keep Ducati firmly involved in the 2026 MotoGP world championship battle.
