The 2026 MotoGP season has turned into an exceptionally tough campaign for Pecco Bagnaia. The Italian rider is currently navigating his final year in the factory Ducati colors, bringing an end to an eight-year partnership that yielded two world championship titles, 31 race victories, and 28 pole positions. Unfortunately, those glorious statistics stand in stark contrast to his current struggles on the asphalt.
Bagnaia finds himself languishing in ninth place in the overall standings, sitting a staggering 189 points behind championship leader Jorge Martin. He is also 187 points adrift of teammate Marc Marquez, despite the Spanish rider missing two full Grand Prix weekends. With only four third-place finishes and a single Sprint victory to his name, expectations have fallen well short of reality.
This underwhelming trajectory prompted harsh words back in September from seasoned team manager Paolo Simoncelli. The outspoken paddock figure publicly suggested that Bagnaia should remain quiet to avoid looking foolish, while also claiming that the rider's entourage had underestimated the arrival of Marquez inside the factory Ducati garage.

However, during a recent interview with Fanpage, Simoncelli moved to clear the air regarding those controversial remarks. He insisted that his statements were entirely devoid of any malicious intent toward the future Aprilia rider. "E stata una chiacchierata registrata, pero assolutamente non volevo dire qualcosa contro Bagnaia. Io a Pecco gli voglio bene," Simoncelli clarified.
Elaborating further, the veteran Italian manager explained that his advice stemmed directly from personal experiences during his time guiding Marco Simoncelli through difficult sporting moments. He believes athletes facing adversity benefit most from ignoring outside noise and tuning out distractions. "Ci sono momenti, siccome ci sono passato anche con Marco, momenti brutti che forse conviene stare zitti e far finta di niente, sbattersene," he concluded.
