Crossing the finish line in tenth position during the MotoGP Sprint at Mugello yielded zero championship points for Diogo Moreira, but the journey to that result served as a crucial milestone in his rookie career. Armed with an impressive eighth-place qualifying performance that saw him advance straight into Q2, the LCR Honda rider stole the spotlight in the opening stages. Capitalizing on a braking mistake by Marco Bezzecchi at Turn 1, Moreira instantly launched himself into fourth place before executing a brilliant overtaking maneuver on eight-time world champion Marc Marquez at Turn 4 to snatch third position.

Running directly in the leading group for several laps provided the rookie with absolutely invaluable experience. Moreira admitted he deliberately used Marquez as his braking reference off the starting line, allowing him to release the brake lever later on the inside line. He acknowledged that pushing beyond his normal limits during those aggressive opening laps sacrificed his front tyre life, which directly caused his inevitable drop down the order in the second half of the race. Although he ultimately surrendered his position to Marquez and young talents Pedro Acosta and Fermin Aldeguer, Moreira insisted that closely observing the racing lines and braking techniques of the grid's elite riders was a worthy trade-off for his tyre degradation.

This significant surge in performance is no mere coincidence for the Brazilian rider. Moreira explained that a recent private test in Barcelona delivered a major setup breakthrough, making the motorcycle significantly easier to ride during intense time attacks. That precise technical evolution allowed him to consistently string together fast sectors during qualifying. Looking ahead to the physically demanding full-length feature race, the rookie is determined to adopt a much smoother riding style to manage tyre wear effectively, fully utilizing his strong grid position to maximize his chances of securing his first-ever points finish in the premier class.
