Oscar Piastri salvaged a top-five finish after executing a crucial late overtake on Lewis Hamilton on the final lap at the Marina Bay Circuit. Despite securing a dramatic late recovery, the Australian driver chose not to over-celebrate the result, acknowledging the limitations of his machinery throughout the weekend.
The McLaren driver's race was compromised by a slow pit stop earlier in the evening, followed by a suspected slow puncture on his front-right tyre. This forced the team into an unscheduled second tyre change on Lap 42, which severely disrupted his rhythm in the mid-field battle.
Despite the setbacks, the Melbourne-born racer charged back through the field and capitalized on his rivals' deteriorating rubber in the closing moments. His daring move on the final tour provided a thrilling climax to what had otherwise been a challenging Grand Prix weekend for the Woking-based outfit.

"I mean it’s for fifth place. So there’s a cap on the excitement. But certainly made it more exciting at the end. Which was good fun," he reflected when asked by media about his final-lap maneuver.
He conceded that the team lacked the raw pace to match front-runners Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc, while noting they remained a step behind the podium-finishing contenders. The outcome extends his winless and podium-less drought to 13 consecutive rounds, keeping him seventh in the drivers' standings with 138 points.
Meanwhile, teammate Lando Norris endured a similarly frustrating evening crossing the line in fourth. The reigning champion admitted that an unnecessary overtaking attempt cost him crucial momentum during his battle in the closing stages.
Looking ahead, the squad faces an uphill battle to close the performance gap without imminent aerodynamic upgrades scheduled to arrive in the near future.
