Starting the race from the pit lane at Sepang proved to be no barrier for Oscar Piastri as he masterfully navigated a chaotic wet circuit. A crucial last-minute switch to intermediate tires paid immediate dividends as slicks-shod rivals struggled for grip, allowing the Australian to surge into the top ten by the end of the opening lap.
A determined drive through the field eventually secured a hard-fought sixth place after holding off a late charge from Liam Lawson. Yet, despite extracting maximum potential from his machinery, the young driver openly conceded that the papaya squad lacked the outright pace required to challenge at the absolute front.
Highlighting the dominant resurgence of Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing since Baku, Piastri emphasized that McLaren and Ferrari currently find themselves operating in a lower performance bracket, far away from regular race wins.
