Oliver Bearman has firmly stated that he harbors zero regrets regarding the aggressive overtaking maneuver he attempted on Pierre Gasly during the United States Grand Prix. The defining flashpoint unfolded during the early laps of Sunday's Formula 1 showdown in Texas, immediately following the withdrawal of the Virtual Safety Car deployed to clear track debris.
The British driver lunged his car down the inside of Gasly at Turn 13, resulting in wheel-to-wheel contact between the pair. While the Haas charger momentarily claimed the position ahead, his car sustained severe floor damage. Race stewards swiftly slapped him with a 10-second time penalty before the mounting aerodynamic deficit ultimately forced him into an early retirement.
Addressing the media after the race, Bearman voiced strong frustration over the stewards' verdict, arguing that the sanction was entirely unwarranted. I went up his inside, he saw me because he left space but for me it didn't really feel like enough. It was a bit of space but only half a car and by the time I was committed, I wasn't disappearing, he explained.

Elaborating further on the consequences of the clash, he added, So we made a bit of contact, I picked up a huge amount of damage on my car. I probably damaged Pierre's car as well. It was a shame because I felt like I was massively penalised for it and it actually ruined my race to have that amount of damage. I was losing a second a lap due to downforce and on top of that, I picked up a penalty. In my view it was a racing incident.
Bearman defended his high-risk approach by highlighting the harsh competitive realities faced by his squad against rival midfield outfits. To be honest, I don't regret going for the move because at this stage if we don't do something special and get a bit lucky, be aggressive and go for it, then we're not going to score points because we're not fast enough to do that on merit, he noted.
Meanwhile, Gasly managed to salvage a solitary championship point by finishing tenth, though he admitted the floor damage hindered his race pace and thwarted any ambitions of challenging Liam Lawson for ninth position.
