The international motorsport community, particularly the off-road and motocross fraternity, is in deep mourning following the passing of Hansi Kinigadner. Born on July 17, 1956, the Tyrolean rider secured his greatest sporting achievements by claiming the Austrian national titles in 1978 aboard a Montesa and in 1980 on a Kramer-Rotax, both secured within the fiercely contested 250cc class. The Kinigadner name remains inextricably linked to the very roots of motocross and the prominent Austrian manufacturer KTM.
However, his remarkable journey was heavily impacted by profound personal trials alongside his immense sporting triumphs. On October 14, 1984, Kinigadner suffered a severe accident during an Austrian championship round in Hohnhart that left him paralyzed from the waist down and permanently confined to a wheelchair. Fate cruelly orchestrated this tragedy in the exact same year that his younger brother, Heinz Kinigadner, clinched his maiden world championship title in the 250cc division.
The family's trials did not end there, as Heinz's son Hannes also suffered a devastating motocross accident in 2003, leaving him similarly paralyzed. Driven by these profound hardships, Heinz Kinigadner and Dietrich Mateschitz established the renowned Wings for Life foundation in 2004, dedicated to finding a cure for spinal cord injuries. In lieu of traditional funeral wreaths and floral tributes, the grieving family has kindly requested donations to be made to the foundation under the reference keyword of the departed legend.

Family members shared their sorrow in the official obituary, noting that the battle of his life has finally come to an end. Hansi leaves behind his devoted wife Katy, his daughter Kathrin, and her family, alongside mourning siblings, relatives, and close friends who stood by him through decades of adversity and resilience.
The memorial service and final farewell are scheduled to take place in Uderns in the Zillertal valley. Mourners will accompany him from the family home to the parish church for the funeral service, followed by his final interment at the local cemetery. The enduring spirit and legacy of the beloved Austrian icon will forever remain etched within the global motorsport paddock.
