The long, grueling summer for IndyCar fans finally finds its most intriguing point this weekend. After a brief detour through the unfamiliar street circuits of Markham and Washington, the series returns to its roots. Milwaukee Mile, one of America's oldest ovals, will host the only double-header of the season—two races in the same weekend.
For Alex Palou, this weekend is about more than just tradition. The Spanish driver arrives in Milwaukee with fond memories: last year he finished second at this very track. But more importantly, he carries the sting of Washington, where his chance to mathematically clinch the title slipped away after a disastrous race. Now, with a 90-point lead over Kyle Kirkwood and just three rounds remaining, Palou remains the heavy favorite to secure his fifth personal crown, and his fourth consecutive. Yet on an oval like Milwaukee, everything can change in an instant.
Two races in two days means twice the opportunity to score maximum points, but also twice the risk. Strategy will be paramount, especially since pit stops and tire management on ovals require careful calculation. Teams will have to work extra hard, while drivers must balance consistency with aggression. This is a different kind of test from road racing, and it could very well decide the trajectory of this year's championship.
From a viewing perspective, fans are in for a treat. Free practice and qualifying can be watched live on IndyCar Live, while both races will be broadcast on Sky Sport. However, there's a slight twist: neither Saturday nor Sunday will use the Sky Sport F1 channel, as Gara 1 will air on Sky Sport Arena and Gara 2 on Sky Sport MotoGP. The reason? A scheduling clash with the live broadcast of the Paraguay Rally, which also takes place this weekend.
