McLaren believes it has found an answer for Lando Norris' fuel system issue from previous rounds, making various engine tweaks ahead of this weekend's Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix to restore their competitive edge.
The McLaren F1 team has implemented a number of peripheral changes to the Mercedes power unit on Lando Norris' car in a bid to eradicate a persistent fuel system problem that heavily impacted their qualifying pace in recent races, while also briefly affecting Oscar Piastri's machinery.
According to Autosport, the team decided to overhaul auxiliary components related to the power unit on the team side ahead of opening practice in Marina Bay, hoping to permanently resolve the injection troubles.
"[I am] hopeful. We need to get on track first and see how much better it is," Lando Norris stated during Thursday's media commitments.
"It's been a frustrating two weekends trying to figure out what the issue has been and why there's just been a constant lack of straight-line speed and performance. And especially in this kind of battle we've been in, the last two qualifying sessions it's been two or three positions. So, it's cost me quite a lot," he added.
While Singapore is traditionally one of the least power-sensitive venues on the calendar, the intense battle at the sharp end of the grid means McLaren cannot afford to leave any performance on the table as FP1 approaches.
