Max Verstappen called out Liam Lawson after their clash

Tension boiled over in the Formula 1 paddock as Max Verstappen openly criticized Liam Lawson following a bizarre collision during the second practice session at the Mexico City Grand Prix. The dramatic clash unfolded as the pair fiercely battled for track position in the early stages of FP2 at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

The wheel-to-wheel scrap began when Lawson initially defended his racing line heading into Turn 12. However, the fierce contest refused to die down, continuing relentlessly through the subsequent sequence of corners located within the atmospheric stadium section.

The situation escalated when Verstappen briefly ran wide off the track at Turn 14 before making unavoidable contact with Lawson's car. The impact inflicted noticeable damage on both machines and left dangerous debris scattered across the asphalt, prompting race control to immediately wave the red flag.

Following the needless on-track coming together, both drivers were promptly placed under investigation by the FIA stewards. Nevertheless, the four-time world champion made his stance crystal clear regarding who deserved the blame after stepping out of the car.

According to Crash.net, Verstappen did not hold back in his post-practice assessment. "I don’t think it’s called unlucky, maybe not very smart behaviour what he was trying to do there," Verstappen told Sky Sports F1 while addressing the controversial maneuver.

The Red Bull star concluded with a stern warning regarding the rookie's current career trajectory in the sport. "At the end of the day, it’s not going to change my weekend. But if I were him I would act a little bit smarter, because when you are fighting for your seat, it’s not very smart behaviour," he added.
