MotoGP title leader Jorge Martin was forced to relinquish the lead during the Mandalika Sprint race after encountering critical technical issues regarding the championship's minimum tyre-pressure regulations. Starting from fifth on the grid, the Aprilia star brilliantly navigated through the first-corner chaos to take charge of the race.

The Spanish rider quickly began building a comfortable advantage over his world championship rival, Marc Marquez. However, the momentum shifted dramatically with five laps remaining when Martin suddenly sat up and allowed the Ducati rider to sail past him into the lead.

Speaking to the media including Crash.net after the race, Martin confirmed he was in grave danger of failing to meet MotoGP's strict minimum tyre-pressure rules, forcing him to try and raise his front tyre temperature by riding directly in the slipstream of his rival. "I did not a great start, but there were four into the first corner, so it was easy for me to go into the lead," Martin explained.

"Then I tried to push, and I was able to make a big gap to Marc. From that point I was just trying to manage the distance. But then I realised that I was under the [tyre] pressure. I just tried to push more, trying to warm up the front tyre a bit more, but I wasn't into the zone, let's say," he added regarding the tricky situation.

A planned last-lap showdown was completely derailed when Martin lost the rear end of his RS-GP machine and ran wide, allowing Ai Ogura and Fabio di Giannantonio to breeze past. The mistake dropped the Aprilia rider down to fourth at the checkered flag.

MotoGP regulations mandate that riders must remain above the minimum tyre pressure threshold for 30 percent of a Sprint race distance, failing which results in a stiff eight-second post-race penalty. Despite this, Martin denied that his squad took any unnecessary risks with their pre-race setup.

"Sometimes it happens. It didn't happen to me a lot in the last few years, but today was one of the days. So it's for sure something we need to check, because today maybe 0.1 [bar more] I was able to win the same and not be in trouble," Martin noted.

Despite the bitter pill of missing out on a certain victory, Martin remains upbeat ahead of Sunday's Indonesian Grand Prix where a win could return him to the top of the championship standings. "I have a big opportunity for tomorrow, and I am fast, so this is the most important thing. I was able to lead with good confidence," he concluded.
