Arvid Lindblad has publicly apologized to his Racing Bulls teammate Liam Lawson following their collision during the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix on the streets of Baku. The incident cost the team a potential double-points finish.
On a track known for its unforgiving walls, Racing Bulls looked set to secure another strong double-points result. However, the mid-race Safety Car restart changed everything. As the field charged towards Turn 1, chaos erupted. Lindblad locked his brakes and made contact with the side of Lawson's car, sending the Kiwi to the back of the field.
The incident proved costly for Lawson, who suffered extensive floor damage. He was forced to recover from last and could only manage a 12th-place finish. Over team radio, Lawson expressed his frustration: “Man, I love getting taken out by my team-mate. That’s pretty sick.”
Lindblad, meanwhile, salvaged his race with a seventh-place finish, earning six valuable points for Racing Bulls. But the rookie took full responsibility for the collision. Speaking to the media after the race, he apologized to Lawson, admitting he made a mistake and expressing regret over the contact.
“I made a mistake and I've apologized to Liam,” Lindblad said. “It's not what I wanted. I locked up and couldn't avoid contact. I'm sorry for costing the team.” His maturity in owning up to the error was evident.
Despite the apology, the incident remains a costly missed opportunity for Racing Bulls in their midfield battle. The team will head to Malaysia next week eager to move on and secure another strong performance. With tensions potentially high, the dynamic between the two drivers will be one to watch.
