Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Lewis Hamilton stated that Scuderia Ferrari managed to gather valuable information from its SF-26 despite a challenging opening day of practice at the 2026 Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park Circuit.
The seven-time world champion was the only driver to finish inside the top four in both practice sessions on Friday. Hamilton ended FP1 in second place before closing the second session in fourth, marking an encouraging start to the weekend for the Ferrari driver.
During FP2, Hamilton briefly ran across the gravel while pushing the car, but he still delivered competitive pace. His best lap left him just 0.001 seconds behind George Russell, who was driving for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team.

Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli finished slightly ahead in the session, highlighting the tight competition at the front as teams prepared for qualifying.
Despite the occasional difficulty on track, Hamilton remained positive about the progress Ferrari achieved during the first day of running.
“It’s been a really good day. It’s great to be back on track and properly get going,” Hamilton said.
“It’s amazing to be here. I feel incredibly grateful to be able to do what I love, and it’s incredible to see so many fans here today.”
“It was challenging at times on track, but we maximised our laps and executed to the best of our ability, getting some good information.”
“There is lots of work to do, but I’m looking forward to getting back in the car tomorrow.”
Ferrari will now analyse the data gathered across the two sessions to further optimise the SF-26 ahead of final practice and qualifying. If the current performance trend continues, Hamilton could be in contention to secure his first Formula 1 grand prix podium with Ferrari during Sunday’s race in Melbourne.
