Lecuona 'Cannot Be Happy' as Bulega Takes Ninth Straight WorldSBK Pole in France

Iker Lecuona says he "cannot be happy" after missing out on pole position at the 2026 French WorldSBK round. The Spaniard started Superpole strongly, edging out team-mate Nicolo Bulega by a couple of tenths after the first runs of the 15-minute session.

But Bulega found the key improvements on his second run, snatching pole by 0.168 seconds ahead of Sam Lowes, while Lecuona ended almost 0.3s adrift. For Lecuona, it was a frustrating result that highlighted a lack of progress since he first qualified on the front row back in April.

Parc Ferme Frustration: Lecuona Speaks Out

"I cannot be happy," Lecuona told the WorldSBK world feed after Superpole. "It's like always from Portimao, always Nicolo has that three or four tenths more than me on the fastest lap. It's not that I don't have the experience now, it's something we don't find on the bike to make that lap time."

Lecuona admitted he's "pissed off" that the team hasn't unlocked the missing tenths yet. "I know he does it really well, that's the reality. We need to work and find those tenths because that's our goal right now," he stressed.

Bulega Makes History with Pole Streak

Meanwhile, Bulega secured his ninth consecutive pole position from the start of the season, and his tenth straight overall – a new WorldSBK record. This came after he struggled with feeling on Friday.

"We improved a lot from yesterday, so I'm happy," Bulega said. "Good lap time, but also Sam and Iker are strong, so we have to stay very focused in the race."
