Liam Lawson will make his third appearance for Red Bull this season at the Madring this weekend. The New Zealander is once again standing in for Isack Hadjar, who is still recovering from a wrist injury.
Liam Lawson says he has found extra confidence after a difficult weekend at Monza, where a grid penalty for an engine change dropped him to the back of the field. Despite finishing 14th, he took heart from the progress he and the team made.
"Monza was a challenging weekend from the start with the engine change putting us on the back foot, so it was difficult to fully show what we were capable of," Lawson said. "The positive is that we found some good pace as the weekend progressed, which gives us confidence heading into Madrid."
The Madring, a new circuit in Madrid, is hosting Formula 1 for the first time. Its tight, high-speed corners are expected to pose a challenge. Lawson has only experienced the track in the simulator, so he is cautious about predictions.
"Madrid is going to be an interesting weekend for everyone. We've only run the track in the simulator so far, so the first practice session will tell us a lot about where we really stand," he explained. "It's a unique circuit and the banked corner should make things interesting."
With two previous outings for Red Bull under his belt, Lawson will be hoping for a more solid performance in Madrid. The pressure to be consistent is real, especially with the tight midfield battle. However, the confidence gained from Monza could prove valuable.
