Lando Norris has delivered a damning assessment of McLaren's latest upgrade package following the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas. The British driver candidly admitted that the Woking squad remains nowhere near the required competitive level, particularly when tackling troublesome slow-speed corners that continue to hinder their overall pace.
Securing a fifth-place finish after being promoted ahead of teammate Oscar Piastri during the race, Norris explained that the team order swap was straightforward due to his noticeable pace advantage over the Australian driver throughout the entire race weekend at Austin.
Discussing the newly introduced components—which featured revised brakes and experimental floor modifications aimed at early evaluation for future car concepts—Norris acknowledged that everything functioned as technically intended. However, he lamented that the developments failed to provide the magical leap needed while rival outfits like Ferrari successfully delivered effective performance steps.

"Yeah, you just hope that you put something on and it's magical, and you go a lot quicker and you're fighting for a podium all of a sudden," Norris told select media. He emphasized that the chronic lack of rear stability and slow-speed rotation has been a persistent characteristic plaguing their machinery for a long time.
As McLaren continues to battle closely in the constructors' standings, further developments are expected to arrive in upcoming rounds ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, with engineers working tirelessly to unlock much-needed rear-end performance.
