Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Kimi Antonelli has revealed his ambition to one day share a car with Max Verstappen in an endurance race, describing a potential partnership with the four-time Formula 1 world champion as “a really cool pair”.
The idea comes as Verstappen prepares to make his debut in the Nürburgring 24 Hours later this year. The Dutch driver will compete with his own team, Verstappen Racing, driving a Mercedes-AMG GT3 entry in the iconic endurance race held on the Nordschleife.
For the event, Verstappen is expected to share the car with experienced GT drivers Dani Juncadella, Jules Gounon, and Lucas Auer. The program continues Verstappen’s growing involvement in endurance racing after testing and driving extensively at the Nürburgring Nordschleife last season.
Antonelli, who drives for Mercedes in Formula 1, believes the two drivers share a genuine enthusiasm for GT racing. His interest in endurance competition is also influenced by his father, Marco Antonelli, a long-time figure in the GT racing scene.
“That would be super cool. I would love to do an endurance race with Max. It would be pretty awesome,” Antonelli said.
“It’s nice because we both have a passion for GT cars. On my side, it comes from my dad and his GT team. Sometimes I get the chance to test as well, and Max clearly enjoys it too.”
Antonelli also expressed excitement about Verstappen’s upcoming participation in the Nürburgring 24 Hours, widely regarded as one of the most demanding endurance races in global motorsport due to the length and complexity of the Nordschleife circuit.
“It’s really cool that he’s going to do the 24 hours at the Nürburgring. It will be an amazing event and I will definitely be watching it. In the future I would really like to race with him in an endurance event.”
The Italian driver added that he has already considered exploring endurance racing more seriously and has even asked about the possibility of testing at the Nordschleife, a circuit he has long admired.
With more Formula 1 drivers showing interest in endurance racing, a potential collaboration between Antonelli and Verstappen could become a fascinating crossover in the wider world of international motorsport.
