Aprilia has officially confirmed that Jorge Martin will attempt to race at the upcoming 2026 Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang. This decisive move comes in the wake of a wrist fracture sustained by the 2024 world champion during a high-stakes sprint race crash at the Australian Grand Prix while battling for victory at Phillip Island.
The crash forced the Spaniard to sit out Sunday's main event, though he received a major reprieve when severe weather led to the complete cancellation of the Australian Grand Prix. Following the sprint encounter, Marc Marquez holds a crucial 10-point advantage over Martin at the top of the championship standings.

The Mallorcan rider has traveled directly to Sepang to evaluate his physical readiness, though his participation remains tentative. Martin still faces a mandatory medical fitness assessment on Thursday to determine if his body can withstand the rigorous demands of a premier class race weekend.

"I’m getting the treatment I need to recover from the injury and arrive at Sepang in the best possible shape," said Martin ahead of the weekend. He further emphasized that "it’s impossible to make any predictions" and that the team "have to assess the situation day by day."
Sepang has proven to be a difficult venue for Martin since joining Aprilia, marked by a heavy pre-season crash in 2025 that sidelined him for much of the year. The circuit was equally tough for the Noale-based manufacturer last season, where their best result was a tenth-place finish by Ai Ogura as the team struggled to unlock competitive pace.
