Jorge Martin believes the run-off layout at TT Circuit Assen helped prevent his Dutch MotoGP Practice crash from becoming significantly more severe at Turn 12.
The Aprilia Racing rider lost the front at the high-speed right-hander after clipping the inside kerb. Martin and his bike then slid across the asphalt run-off before continuing onto the grass.

Martin said he was relieved that the area beyond the asphalt was grass rather than gravel. In his view, gravel at that point could have increased the risk of being thrown into a series of rolls because of the speed of the crash.

"Luckily there was a lot of run-off area and after all the asphalt we had there was some green and not gravel because I think if there was some gravel I would have started making some backflips and it was not good," said Martin.
Despite the crash, Martin considered his first day at Assen largely positive. He felt more competitive than at Brno, especially after the team tried adding more weight to the front of the bike to help him understand the grip limit under braking.
Martin said the change also helped mentally because it gave him more support from the front tyre. However, he still identified stability as the main area to improve before the next sessions, particularly with team-mate Marco Bezzecchi appearing to hold an advantage in time attack trim.
