Jorge Martin arrives at MotorLand Aragon with a broad smile. After a solid weekend at Silverstone, the Aprilia rider feels his confidence is at its highest this season. But interestingly, he didn't come with a revenge mission or an obsession to beat Marc Marquez—rather, to continue a development process that is starting to bear fruit.
“I feel the same as at Silverstone, hopefully the weekend goes the same. The important thing is I feel ready and strong. Training felt comfortable, and I think I'm in better shape than I was at Silverstone,” said Martin, who had to endure a difficult time with Ducati last season.
Beating Marc Marquez? Not a Priority
When asked if he could beat Marquez at the latter's favorite circuit, Martin's answer was realistic. “It's very difficult, but right now it's not my fight to win here or not. Obviously I'll try, but the important thing is to focus on my work, keep improving with Aprilia, and confirm I'm competitive like at Silverstone.”
This attitude shows the maturity of a rider who knows his priorities. In the midst of tight MotoGP competition, Martin chooses to build long-term foundations with his new team rather than just chasing instant results.
Quick Adaptation at a New Track
One of the biggest challenges this weekend is that Martin has never ridden the Aprilia at Aragon. “It's always the same story. My team knows me better and better, and when I arrive at a track I haven't ridden with this bike, I need them to prepare a base that works. I think starting with that base will be better than other times,” he explained.
He also recalled that Aragon is a fast and demanding track. “Last year they were very fast here, so I'll probably have to adapt mentally,” he added.
Aprilia's Increasingly Solid Development
Martin admitted that his riding sensations are now much better, especially at the front—an area that has been his main focus. “Stability has improved a lot, the bike is very consistent on all tracks and well balanced. There's still room for improvement, but we're moving in the right direction.”
Asked if a P2 behind Marquez would be considered a success, Martin smiled. “That's a very good result. Two years ago I finished there and I'd sign for that now. But in racing, anything can happen. I'll try to get the maximum and we'll see on Sunday.”
More Mature than 2024
Compared to last season, Martin feels he has grown a lot. “I have more experience, for sure. I feel more and more comfortable with the Aprilia. 2024 was a difficult year because the feelings weren't good. Now I come with a better bike,” he said.
He also doesn't want to talk about title chances yet. “I don't know if tomorrow I'll think about that. What's clear is my focus is on enjoying the race and continuing to develop this package.”
