Championship leader Jorge Martin approaches the crucial round at the Mandalika Circuit with a grounded mindset. Despite recently enjoying a significant performance boost with Aprilia following an impressive double podium in Motegi, the Spanish rider insists he is under no illusion that he will sweep every single victory in the final stretch of the season.
The stellar result at the Japanese Grand Prix showcased how the Noale-based manufacturer could step up through a historic double podium achieved by Martin and Marco Bezzecchi. This achievement not only boosted squad morale but also served as a vital asset for Martin in defending his championship lead against the constant pressure applied by Marc Marquez.
Speaking during the opening press conference at the beachside Lombok circuit, Jorge Martin revealed that his riding feeling is currently at its peak for the 2026 campaign. Feeling much more connected to his machine after completing numerous laps and technical learnings, he feels increasingly competitive across various track layouts, including securing pole position in Japan.
"Mein Gefuhl zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt ist das beste der Saison – auch wegen der Ergebnisse, aber noch viel mehr wegen dem guten Gefuhl, das sich nach vielen Runden und all dem, was wir gelernt haben, da ist. Ich wurde zuletzt immer schneller," said Jorge Martin regarding his positive progress on track.
Commenting on the bike's potential at the Mandalika coastal track, the championship leader emphasized that MotoGP competition is always full of surprises. Looking back at last year when his teammate performed brilliantly, he remains level-headed and prioritizes consistent points scoring to secure the world title.
"Du weißt nie, was in der MotoGP passiert. Es gibt die Erinnerungen an 2025, als Marco als Fahrer den Unterschied machen konnte – aber das auch mit einem Bike, das sehr gut funktioniert hat. Erwartungen habe ich keine, denn ich bilde mir nicht ein alles zu gewinnen. Es wird wie immer harte Arbeit, besonders mit Marc und Marco," he stated.
