Jaspar Vaher, the young protege of Toyota Gazoo Racing, has officially changed his co-driver. After a season competing alongside Rait Jansen in Rally2 machinery, Vaher will now partner with Janni Hussi—a name already well-known in the World Rally Championship as Teemu Suninen’s navigator.
The decision was announced following mutual agreement between Vaher, Jansen, and the team. Management believes this change is the best step for the 19-year-old’s career development. “Following discussions with Jaspar and Rait, it was mutually agreed that a change is the best solution for Jaspar’s continued development and progression as a driver,” a Toyota statement said.
Hussi is no stranger to the WRC paddock. This season, she has been alongside Teemu Suninen, clinching a WRC2 victory in Portugal. The duo also finished second three times—in Sweden, Estonia, and most recently at Rally Finland. Those results have cemented Hussi’s reputation as one of the top co-drivers in the category.
Suninen bid farewell with heartfelt words on social media. “We will take away many fond memories from this WRC season. We achieved great things together, went on some fantastic trips, shared many good moments and celebrated some great results. I’m really proud of what we achieved and extremely happy with our partnership. Thank you for all the hard work, commitment and wonderful memories along the way.”
“I’m genuinely delighted for you and this new opportunity in your career. I wish you all the best for the future and good luck with the new chapter of your career,” Suninen wrote.
For Vaher, teaming up with Hussi presents a significant test. This season, he has been gaining experience in the Finnish and European championships with Jansen, including his WRC debut at Rally Estonia in July. Now, with a seasoned navigator by his side, expectations for his growth are higher. They will kick off their partnership at Rally 1000 Miglia, an asphalt event in Italy scheduled for 4–5 September.
This move also underscores Toyota Gazoo Racing’s commitment to its young driver development program. By pairing Vaher with Hussi, who has proven her ability to read stages and call strategies at world level, the team hopes to accelerate his learning curve.
