The 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix generated several major talking points across the international media after the race in Baku. George Russell's victory provided the headline result, but attention also turned to Christian Horner speculation, the Franco Colapinto incident involving Lando Norris and Pierre Gasly, and Ferrari's continued straight-line deficit.
The Telegraph focused on Horner's comments about Ferrari amid renewed discussion surrounding his future. Horner was reported to have indicated that Ferrari would be the only team he would consider joining purely as an employee, without seeking an equity stake. The report linked those comments to ongoing questions over Fred Vasseur's position after the Ferrari team principal acknowledged that speculation surrounding Horner had become an unwanted distraction during race weekends.
The Telegraph also reported that Lewis Hamilton had reaffirmed his support for Vasseur when questioned about the situation. The publication additionally referenced reports that a consortium led by Horner had been rebuffed by Renault over an approach for a minority stake in Alpine. Those developments have kept Horner's future and Ferrari's leadership structure under discussion.
In the Netherlands, De Telegraaf focused on Lando Norris's reaction to the restart incident. Norris called for Colapinto to receive a one-race suspension after the Argentine locked his brakes into Turn 1, hit team-mate Gasly and subsequently collected Norris's McLaren. The stewards issued Colapinto a 10-second penalty, converted into a five-place grid drop for the following race, but Norris argued that incidents of this nature should receive a stronger punishment.
Gazzetta dello Sport meanwhile examined Ferrari's technical shortcomings. The Italian publication noted that Ferrari used its Monza-specification low-downforce floor without bringing fresh upgrades to Baku, while McLaren arrived with changes to its sidepods, floor, diffuser and rear wing. Charles Leclerc and Hamilton were reported to have struggled with energy deployment and reduced top-end power through Baku's long full-throttle sections.
Tyre selection also featured in the analysis. Leclerc and Hamilton started on soft tyres in an attempt to gain track position, but wheelspin and front-tyre temperature issues left them vulnerable on the straights during the opening stint. Despite those limitations, Vasseur pointed out that Ferrari still scored more points than McLaren in Baku.
In France, L'Équipe highlighted Gasly's frustration after his race ended through contact with his own team-mate. Meanwhile, the New Zealand Herald reported that Liam Lawson blamed straight-line speed deficits and overheating tyres for narrowly missing Q3. Lawson also failed to find a useful slipstream on Baku's long straight and eventually finished 12th.
The Herald Sun placed particular focus on Oscar Piastri, who lost a potential podium after locking both front wheels while defending against Isack Hadjar at the restart. The McLaren driver entered the escape road and dropped from third to 15th. The Australian publication reported that McLaren suspected the road surface's uneven crowning may have contributed to the sudden lock-up, although the result nevertheless represented a significant loss for the team.
The international reaction therefore extended beyond Russell's victory, with the Azerbaijan Grand Prix generating separate discussions around Ferrari's leadership and Horner speculation, the consequences of the restart incident for Norris and Alpine, and the technical weaknesses that again affected Ferrari and McLaren in Baku.
