Spanish motorcycle manufacturer Macbor has officially announced an ambitious milestone to make its debut in the world's most demanding rally, the Dakar Rally, in the motorcycle category for the 2027 edition. This major project will be spearheaded by seasoned veteran Gerard Farres, marking his much-anticipated return to the Dakar bike class for the first time since 2018. Having previously supported the rider as a sponsor in the Side by Side category, the brand is now taking a massive leap forward by entering the motorcycle competition as an official factory team.
Intensive preparations are already underway well ahead of the official start of the Dakar Rally 2027, scheduled from January 1 to 15. To ensure optimal readiness, Macbor and Gerard Farres have mapped out a rigorous testing schedule featuring two competitive events in Morocco. These outings are deemed vital for gathering crucial data on machine durability, navigational precision, and rider endurance across brutal desert terrains.
The first preparatory test will take place at the 2026 1000 Dunas Rally, traversing the Moroccan desert from Fez to Merzouga across six grueling stages. This event offers a diverse combination of landscapes and navigational challenges, providing the technical crew with an ideal environment to evaluate long-distance performance and fine-tune machine setups.

Following the initial test, Gerard Farres and the Macbor squad will line up for the Addax Rally, running from October 25 to 30, 2026, in Merzouga. Covering approximately 1,600 kilometers, the rally will test the team across shifting sands, rocky tracks, and demanding sectors around Erg Chebbi, leveraging Farres' renowned roadbook navigation expertise.
Beyond sporting ambitions, the Dakar 2027 campaign forms a cornerstone of Macbor's broader international expansion strategy. Currently operating in fifteen European markets—anchored by Spain, France, and Portugal, alongside recent growth in Benelux, Poland, Switzerland, and the Baltics—the brand aims to leverage the global visibility of the world's toughest rally to accelerate its worldwide presence.
