Pierre Gasly has urged Alpine to preserve the performance gains displayed during the 2026 Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix after the Enstone-based team emerged as one of the strongest midfield contenders. Despite retiring from the main race, Gasly described Miami as one of Alpine’s most encouraging weekends since the start of the season.
The French driver scored a point during the sprint race before his grand prix ended early following contact with the Racing Bulls car of Liam Lawson. However, Alpine still secured a major result through Franco Colapinto, who finished seventh after a post-race penalty dropped Charles Leclerc down the order.
The additional points lifted Alpine to 23 points after only four rounds of the 2026 season, surpassing the team’s entire points total from the 2025 campaign. The performance jump has also elevated Alpine into fifth place in the constructors’ championship during an increasingly competitive midfield battle.

"I hope we can have the same kind of performance again in Canada. Miami felt surprisingly good compared to the rest of the midfield, and hopefully it’s not just circuit-specific," said Gasly.
From a technical perspective, Alpine appeared to make a significant step forward in aerodynamic efficiency and slow-corner stability. Miami’s combination of high-speed sections and heavy traction zones seemed to suit the latest A526 developments, particularly in rear tyre management and power delivery during acceleration phases.
However, Gasly admitted there are still weaknesses Alpine must address before heading to the Canadian Grand Prix. He believes he was missing roughly three to four tenths per lap compared to Colapinto due to traction-related issues that the team has not yet fully understood. During qualifying in Miami, Gasly was beaten twice by his younger team-mate.
"We still need to understand some of the traction struggles I had. There are probably three or four tenths we still need to find," he explained.
Colapinto’s performance also provided an important indication that Alpine’s improvement was not purely circumstantial. The team appeared more competitive in race pace compared to direct midfield rivals such as Haas and Williams, particularly during longer stints as tyre degradation increased.
With Formula 1 now entering a short break before the Canadian Grand Prix, Alpine finds itself in a significantly stronger position compared to last season. The team’s primary objective over the next two weeks will be ensuring that the Miami performance was not simply the result of track characteristics. If Alpine can maintain similar competitiveness at a circuit with very different grip and downforce demands such as Montreal, the team could strengthen its hold on the midfield battle during the 2026 constructors’ championship.
