Gasly Predicts Red Flag Chaos in F1 Madrid Debut at Madring
TO NEWS OVERVIEW
A weekend of unpredictability faces drivers in Madrid

Pierre Gasly didn't hold back when speaking to the media in Madrid on Thursday. The Alpine driver joked that the inaugural Spanish Grand Prix at the new Madring circuit will be punctuated by a red flag on Sunday afternoon. "I'll put my money on the red flag, that's for sure," he said, as quoted by Motorsport Week.

Madring, a street circuit with over 20 corners located in the heart of the Spanish capital, is full of unknowns. Its Formula 1 debut is a historic moment, but also brings uncertainty. A previous Formula 3 test at the track resulted in multiple crashes, fueling speculation that the race weekend could be chaotic.

Nevertheless, Pierre Gasly praised the circuit's characteristics. "Driving-wise, I must say in the sim, it was very enjoyable and very exciting. I got a good read and feel of pretty much every single wall at every single corner. So actually I know what to do and what not to do," he explained.

Gasly believes the biggest challenge is not just the layout but also track evolution. "But I think it's going to be very challenging, especially in terms of evolution. Probably a lot of track evolution. Kind of slightly awkward braking zones which are not fully straight; kind of like snaky, very twisty type of corners. Many corners, a lot of blinds, banking, up and down, undulation all the way. So I think I expect a very tricky track," he said.

He even compared Madring to Monaco in terms of the consequences of small mistakes. "Challenging for us, which makes it good because you can always aim to do a bit more difference driving-wise. But again, it's a type of track a bit like Monaco where I think if you do a slight mistake, you can have big consequences straight away," he added.

For Alpine, racing in Madrid could be an opportunity to score crucial points in an up-and-down season. Gasly is known as a driver who can maximize difficult conditions, and new circuits often become a stage for experienced drivers to shine. However, he stressed the importance of vigilance at every braking zone and the speed carried through corners.

With speculation already swirling, all eyes will be on how drivers tackle Formula 1's latest addition to the calendar. Will Madring deliver an exciting race or pure chaos? Gasly has already placed his bet: a red flag is almost certain. "I think it's going to be quite a disruptive weekend," he concluded.
