Two-time world champion Francesco Bagnaia has been officially sidelined from the Qatar Grand Prix weekend following a brutal high-side crash during the sprint race. The Ducati factory rider was launched into the air after a collision in the early stages of the event, bringing a premature and painful end to his weekend at the Losail International Circuit.
The incident was triggered when Fermin Aldeguer of the BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP team lost control under braking and clattered into the Italian, necessitating an immediate red flag. The intensity of the impact left no doubt that Bagnaia would be unable to return for the remainder of the session.
Following an examination by MotoGP medical director Dr. Angel Charte, it was confirmed that Bagnaia sustained two fractures in his right foot, specifically affecting the fourth and fifth metatarsals. The Ducati team released a statement confirming his transfer to a hospital in Doha for further assessment to determine the necessity of surgical intervention.

With only two rounds remaining on the 2026 calendar, specifically the upcoming races in Portugal and Valencia, Bagnaia's participation for the rest of the season is currently in serious doubt. The recovery process for such fractures is significant, and it is possible that his final chapter with Ducati has effectively come to a forced conclusion.
Aldeguer was issued a double long lap penalty for his role in the collision during the race restart. As the paddock processes this unfortunate turn of events, the focus shifts to how the Italian manufacturer will manage this void in their lineup for the final double-header. Stay tuned for further medical updates and championship implications as they unfold.
