A new driving partnership in GT4 Australia has sent ripples through the paddock. Cameron McLeod and Jack Wallis, two rising stars in Australian motorsport, will share a Mustang Dark Horse R at Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend.
McLeod will contest Saturday’s Johnson Cup, while Wallis takes the wheel on Sunday for the Ambrose Cup. The pair will pilot the #92 RM Race Cars entry, a car McLeod drove to victory at the Le Mans Invitational last year and in the season opener at Phillip Island, where he scored pole position and the Sunday win.
The #92 entry has been a revolving door throughout the season. After McLeod, Harry Bresnehan drove at The Bend, followed by Patrick Neville at Queensland Raceway, and Supercars driver Bryce Fullwood at Hidden Valley, who swept both races. Now McLeod returns, this time with Wallis as his new partner.
Meanwhile, Brock Stinson returns for the second consecutive event in the #31 HMO Customer Racing entry. Brock Giblin is also back after missing Darwin, but Keith Kassulke will sit out Sydney. The Legends class gets a boost with the addition of Bathurst 6 Hour winner Ben Kavich, a series debutant, joining GWR Australia.
Interestingly, RM Race Cars will field two brothers: Josh and Patrick Trappett. They will run identical liveries on the #95 and #96 Mustangs. This marks Patrick’s series debut and his first start at Sydney Motorsport Park after racing in Hyundai Excels.
In the championship standings, Josh Anderson leads by 38 points over Joe Fawcett. Jack Perkins sits third, nearly 100 points adrift and yet to claim a victory. The title fight intensifies with just two rounds remaining.
A total of $4000 in prize money is up for grabs, with an additional $2000 for any driver who can secure both poles. Races will be broadcast live on Fox Sports and Kayo, with practice starting Friday, followed by qualifying and racing on Saturday and Sunday.
