Aruba.it Racing Ducati star Alvaro Bautista has admitted that his fierce competitive drive may have backfired after he aggressively racked up a total of 32 laps around the MotorLand Aragon circuit during Friday's WorldSBK practice sessions. The two-time world champion arrived in Spain under a massive physical cloud, having been forced to sit out the entire Czech round just two weeks ago after a violent crash in Free Practice 3 left him with severe ankle fractures.
Having only undergone corrective surgery at the beginning of last week, Bautista miraculously passed the mandatory medical checks on Thursday and received final clearance following a tentative run in Friday morning's FP1. However, speaking directly to the championship's official website after concluding FP2, the Spanish veteran openly confessed that he had probably completed far too many laps, which ultimately induced extreme fatigue in his injured foot and raised fresh concerns regarding his overall race stamina.
Bautista vividly detailed a terrifying sensation during his initial FP1 outing, explaining that his brain registered a feeling as if his foot simply did not exist. He attempted to apply mechanical pressure through the footpeg, but his nerves completely failed to respond. Although his physical feeling gradually returned and his pain threshold improved significantly heading into FP2, the sheer accumulation of 32 high-speed laps eventually shattered his physical limits. The reigning champion is now relying entirely on intensive overnight therapy, waiting to see how his battered body recovers in the morning before making a final decision on his competitive participation for the remainder of the weekend.
