The FIA World Motor Sport Council has officially approved a comprehensive package of technical and sporting regulations that will radically reshape the competitive landscape of world rallying. These crucial decisions were finalized during a high-level meeting focused on the future structure of the premier category under the entirely new WRC27 rules.
Under the updated Rally1 framework, two distinct types of vehicles will compete directly against one another on the stages next year. The starting grid will feature machinery built strictly to the brand-new WRC27 technical regulations alongside WRC Kit cars derived from current Rally2 platforms. These WRC Kit entries will be equipped with an approved aerodynamic package consisting of revised front wings, a new front bumper, and an updated rear aerodynamic component.
Both vehicle specifications will contest the exact same top-level Rally1 category, accompanied by an overall boost in performance. The maximum diameter of the turbocharger air restrictor is set to increase from 32 millimetres to 33 millimetres for both vehicle types. Furthermore, the FIA retains the authority to implement necessary technical or sporting adjustments to guarantee appropriate performance parity, a provision deemed vital throughout the 2027–2028 transition phase.

Significant changes are also arriving for the championship titles, as the current manufacturers' world championship will be officially replaced by a brand-new constructors' championship next season. This shift allows independent car developers and specialized tuners to compete alongside traditional automotive manufacturers for ultimate glory, though competing constructors must contest every single round on the calendar.
A newly established WRC teams' championship has also been introduced, comprising seven pre-selected events including at least one overseas round outside Europe and the season finale. Meanwhile, categories such as WRC2, WRC3, and the WRC Masters Cup will continue alongside the debut of an affordable Rally6 class aimed at lowering financial barriers in rallying.
