A dramatic and frightening incident during the sprint race at the Lusail International Circuit has sparked intense paddock debates after Fermin Aldeguer insisted he did not execute an overly reckless move in the collision that left Pecco Bagnaia with severe injuries.
The Gresini rider was embroiled in a fierce on-track battle with KTM star Pedro Acosta exiting Turn 15 when a miscalculation under braking heading into the final corner resulted in a violent impact with the factory Ducati machine.
The resulting high-speed crash triggered an immediate red flag as medical personnel rushed to attend to the Italian rider trackside, who unfortunately suffered multiple foot fractures from the unfortunate tangle.

Race control swiftly handed the young Spaniard a double long lap penalty, which he was forced to serve during the restarted sprint encounter as punishment for the misjudgment.
Speaking to reporters after the chequered flag, the BK8 Gresini Racing youngster revealed that he immediately visited the opposing garage to offer a sincere apology to the crew, while simultaneously defending his competitive intentions on track.
"First of all, I want to apologise to Pecco and the team," Aldeguer told the media. "I've already stopped by his garage and tried to explain as clearly as possible what happened. The crash was spectacular, but I don't think I made such a crazy move, from my perspective."
He explained that his primary objective was to reclaim lost ground from Acosta, who had experienced a messy exit out of Turn 15, prompting the Gresini rider to seize what appeared to be a viable overtaking opportunity.
"I was trying to regain a position on Pedro, who had exited badly from Turn 15. I saw the opportunity to get through at the last corner, but clearly he, after exiting badly, tried to defend his position. We were a little past the halfway point of the track, towards the right, and we know that here in Qatar, when you go off the racing line, it's a bit of a lottery. I wasn't able to brake the bike as I would have liked," he continued.
Despite serving the rigorous double penalty, he managed to salvage an eleventh-place finish, crossing the line nearly nine and a half seconds adrift of the race winner, noting that clearing the sanction was vital ahead of the main grand prix.
Reflecting on the varied reactions from rival teams, he acknowledged that paddock opinions on racing incidents are often sharply divided depending on personal stakes.
"In the end, some understand that these things can happen in the race, while others take it more personally. But I can only apologise and try to prevent something like this from happening again in the next races. In the end, that's how it goes: sometimes you make a mistake, other times you suffer it," he concluded.
