Formula E, Sportrik Media - Felipe Drugovich has delivered a frank assessment of the current Formula E Gen3 car, stating that it does not provide the level of driving enjoyment expected at the top level of electric single-seater racing.
The Brazilian driver has endured a challenging start to his debut season with Andretti, failing to score points after the opening five rounds of the championship. His best results so far have been 12th-place finishes in São Paulo and Jeddah.
Expectations surrounding Drugovich have been high following his title-winning campaign in Formula 2 and his previous role as reserve driver for Aston Martin in Formula 1. In Miami he delivered one of his strongest performances of the season before contact with Antonio Felix da Costa ended his podium challenge and dropped him to the back of the field.

“I’m starting to enjoy it. The first few races were a bit tough, but overall the championship is very well organised and I like the type of racing,” Drugovich told RacingNews365.
“I do wish the cars were faster, which is something that already has a solution coming. Because of that, I’m very excited for what’s ahead.”
The current campaign represents the final season for the Gen3 machine before the championship introduces the new Gen4 car next year. The upcoming generation is expected to feature significantly increased power output and enhanced aerodynamic performance, making it more comparable to traditional single-seater race cars.
“If the car stayed like this for another five years, maybe it wouldn’t be that enjoyable. But with the direction things are going, I think the future of Formula E looks very exciting with the new car.”
Drugovich believes the Gen4 car could transform the driving experience for competitors. Early feedback from drivers who have already tested the prototype suggests the new machine will deliver a more engaging and rewarding feel behind the wheel.
“In all fairness, the Gen3 is not the kind of car that gives you a big smile when you drive it. It’s cool and interesting, but not the most satisfying compared to other motorsport series. From what I’ve heard, Gen4 seems to be changing that.”
As a customer team, Andretti does not yet have access to Gen4 testing programmes currently run by manufacturers. Nevertheless, Drugovich admitted he is eager to experience the new car himself as the championship prepares for a major technical transition.
With Formula E approaching a new technical era, the introduction of Gen4 is expected to significantly reshape the competitive landscape and offer drivers like Drugovich a stronger platform to showcase their abilities in the all-electric championship.
