Heartbreak struck George Russell late in the Bahrain Grand Prix at Sepang as a cruel engine failure forced a premature retirement. However, the misfortune unfolding on his side of the garage turned into a massive championship boost for Kimi Antonelli.
While Antonelli did not secure the race victory, his runner-up finish proved equally valuable, adding another 18 points to his tally. The championship leader has now stretched his commanding advantage to an imposing 84 points over his teammate as the Formula 1 circus prepares for Singapore.
Further down the order, Max Verstappen delivered a masterclass to claim his maiden victory of the season, vaulting up to sixth in the standings. He now sits level with Lando Norris and just three points shy of Charles Leclerc in an increasingly tight battle.

Elsewhere, a brilliant drive from Fernando Alonso yielded a surprise eighth-place finish and crucial points for Aston Martin, though Mercedes continues its relentless march at the summit of the constructors' championship.
