F1 Drivers Address Middle East Uncertainty Ahead of Qatar and Abu Dhabi GPs
TO NEWS OVERVIEW
F1 is scheduled to visit Qatar at the end of November

Formula 1 drivers have warned that circumstances can shift rapidly from day to day as persistent uncertainty surrounds the upcoming Grands Prix scheduled in Qatar and Abu Dhabi. Despite ongoing geopolitical instability across the Middle East, Formula 1 management remains fully committed to staging the Qatar Grand Prix on November 29 and the season finale in Abu Dhabi on December 6 according to the original calendar.

Speaking ahead of the race weekend, Sergio Perez emphasized that the drivers hold no authority in making final safety determinations regarding the viability of these overseas events. The Mexican veteran pointed out that conditions on the ground can escalate quickly, leaving the absolute responsibility of safeguarding personnel entirely in the hands of series organizers and governing authorities.

"I think nobody knows at the moment. It can change from one day to another. Things can ramp up," Sergio Perez stated regarding the volatile situation. "At the moment, it looks like the right thing from what we've seen in MotoGP, but I just think that these things can change day to day. So we are not the ones taking the decisions."

Williams competitor Alex Albon echoed those sentiments, noting that the grid must adopt a wait-and-see approach with several weeks still remaining before the paddock travels to the region. Acknowledging the extreme sensitivity of the area, Albon observed how riders in the MotoGP paddock have actively sought and secured crucial safety assurances before committing to their respective regional rounds.

Ferrari star Charles Leclerc added that the topic is bound to feature prominently in upcoming conversations among competitors as the grueling 2026 championship draws toward its conclusion. While formal discussions via the Grand Prix Drivers' Association have not yet peaked, Leclerc confirmed that safety guarantees in the Middle East remain a high-priority subject on their collective agenda.
