A brutal verdict has been handed to George Russell after a recent fan poll revealed a complete lack of confidence in his ability to secure second place in the championship. Only 2.7 per cent of voters backed the Briton to finish as the runner-up behind the current championship leader, despite him currently sitting in second place in the standings with 242 points under his belt.
The poll was thoroughly dominated by Max Verstappen, who claimed a massive 60.3 per cent of the total votes. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton captured 30.1 per cent to take second spot in the projections, with Charles Leclerc following behind at 6.9 per cent. Interestingly, neither Lando Norris nor Oscar Piastri managed to secure a single vote from the participating respondents in the survey.
This outcome directly mirrors the difficult recent form endured by the Mercedes driver, whose struggles culminated in an eighth-place finish at the United States Grand Prix while his teammate took race victory. Consequently, his margin at the top has evaporated, sitting just one point clear of his closest challenger and a mere six points ahead of the chasing Red Bull driver with five rounds remaining.

Technical hurdles introduced by the upgraded W17 chassis have played a major role in these performance setbacks. The new package features a remarkably narrow and highly sensitive operating window, which has proven exceptionally difficult for the engineering crew to set up consistently throughout intense race weekends.
This narrow window triggers severe tyre degradation when running in dirty air during opening stints, a compounding issue made worse by getting stuck behind slower cars running identical power units. These combined factors have heavily amplified the deficit to his garage neighbor during recent Grand Prix weekends.
