History was officially written in international motorcycle racing as Xavi Artigas secured the inaugural world championship title in the FIM Sportbike World Championship. The Spanish rider clinched the coveted crown after finishing eighth in a tense season-ending race at the Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto on Sunday afternoon.
Entering the final round with a crucial thirteen-point advantage, the atmosphere inside the paddock was thick with anticipation as only compatriot David Salvador remained as his sole mathematical threat for the title. Drama heightened right before the start when initial raindrops fell on the southern Spanish asphalt, though fortunately, the weather cleared and allowed the full race distance to unfold on a dry racing line.
As the red lights went out, Salvador initially grabbed the holeshot to dictate the early pace, but the momentum shifted dramatically by the fourth lap when Carter Thompson seized control of the field. The Australian rider quickly established a comfortable gap alongside his closest pursuers while a fierce battle for the remaining podium spots intensified behind them.

Both title contenders found themselves heavily embroiled in the chaotic mid-pack battles, pushing to the absolute limit. However, adopting a mature approach in the closing stages, Artigas opted for calculated caution to cross the finish line in eighth place. With Salvador taking fourth at the checkered flag, Artigas successfully sealed the championship standings with 245 points to Salvador's 237.
At the front of the field, Thompson delivered a masterclass performance to claim victory by 4.565 seconds, rounding off a thrilling weekend of racing just moments before a fresh round of light rain droplets returned over the Andalusian circuit.
