In a surprising move that has sent ripples through the paddock, WorldSBK has unveiled its provisional calendar for the 2027 season, featuring two new circuits that immediately grab attention: Ricardo Tormo in Valencia and the Shanghai International Circuit. Valencia returns after nearly two decades away—its last appearance was in 2009—while Shanghai marks the championship's historic debut in China.

Valencia replaces Jerez, which will undergo pit complex upgrades ahead of the 2026 Spanish MotoGP. The Valencia round is slated for 2–4 April as the third event. Meanwhile, Shanghai will host the season finale on 29–31 October, extending the season to the end of October, a couple of weeks later than 2026. The circuit, which hosted MotoGP from 2006 to 2008, was chosen because it is the only venue with the necessary safety certification for WorldSBK, and it opens doors to the growing Chinese market.

These two new circuits replace Balaton Park in Hungary and Jerez. Phillip Island remains the season opener in February, followed by Portimao kicking off the European season in late March. After Valencia, Assen and Aragon follow, before Most, Misano, and Donington conclude the first half before the summer break. Magny-Cours resumes in early September, then Cremona and Estoril, with China as the curtain-closer.

The return to Valencia is not without reason. The circuit offers a technical challenge with a mix of fast and slow corners, often used as a pre-season testing venue. Despite its absence, Valencia remains a reference point for riders. Now, with its place on the 2027 calendar, teams must prepare different strategies, especially in setting up their bikes for the relatively narrow track.

Shanghai also has its own allure. With a long straight and technical corners, the circuit could become a battleground, especially for manufacturers eager to showcase dominance in front of Chinese fans. The inclusion of Shanghai underscores WorldSBK's ambition to expand its global reach, even though only one overseas round has been held since 2024. The choice of Shanghai—over Chengdu or Ningbo—was based on safety and infrastructure readiness.

For fans, this calendar promises a vibrant season. The two new circuits will test riders' adaptability and teams' speed in bike development. Valencia and Shanghai are not just names on a schedule; they are new stages that could shift the balance of power. WorldSBK 2027 is set to deliver drama across two continents.
